A load cell (or loadcell) is a transducer which converts force into a measurable electrical output. Although there are many varieties of loadcells, strain gauge load cells are the most commonly used type which is comprised of a solid metal body on which strain gauges have been secured to form a wheatstone bridge which delivers mV/V output.
Load cell output: = (Power supply * Rated output) * Load / Capacity
Rated output is normally within 1mV/V~3mV/V.
Power supply is normally within 3-15V.
Load / Capacity is within 0-1.
So the load cell output signal is normally within 0-45mV(-45mV...+45mV for bidirectional load cell).
Example one: Flange Type Compression Force Transducer FFA-1kN with 2.0mV/V rated output powered by 3.3V DC,the output range is -6.6mV...+6.6mV.
Example two: Flange-to-Flange Tension/Compression Load Cell FFA-2kN with 2.0mV/V rated output powered by 10V DC,the output range is -20mV...+20mV.
A loadcell signal conditioner can be used to convert mV signal into 0-5V/0-10V/4-20mA for easy signal processing.
Example one: Tension And Compression Load Cell FFA-20kN working with amplifier FSC(-10-10V)-24V, the force-voltage relationship will be 0-20kN compression force VS 0-10V output, 0-20kN tension force VS 0-(-10V) output.
