A load cell (or loadcell) is a transducer which converts force into a measurable electrical output. Although there are many varieties of loadcells, strain gauge load cells are the most commonly used type which is comprised of a solid metal body on which strain gauges have been secured to form a wheatstone bridge which delivers mV/V output.
Load cell output: = (Power supply * Rated output) * Load / Capacity
Rated output is normally within 1mV/V~3mV/V.
Power supply is normally within 3-15V.
Load / Capacity is within 0-1.
So the load cell output signal is normally within 0-45mV(-45mV...+45mV for bidirectional load cell).
Example one: Flange Type Tension Load Cell FFG-1kN with 2.0mV/V sensitivity powered by 10V DC,the output range is -20mV...+20mV.
Example two: Flange-to-Flange Pull Load Cell FFG-2kN with 2.0mV/V sensitivity powered by 5V DC,the output range is -10mV...+10mV.
Load cell + Signal amplifier:
A signal conditioner can be used to convert mV signal into 0-5V/0-10V/4-20mA for easy signal processing.
Example one: Miniature Compression Tension Load Cell FFG-500N working with amplifier FSC(-5-5V)-24V, the load-voltage relationship will be 0-500N compression force VS 0-5V output, 0-500N tension force VS 0-(-5V) output.
Example two: Micro Push Pull Force Sensor FFG-200N working with amplifier FSC(4-12-20mA)-24V,the load-current relationship will be 0-200N compression force VS 12-20mA output, 0-200N tension force VS 12-4mA output.
